Though I am a Dominant myself, I will sometimes be a rope bottom (literally twice in our relationship thus far) to understand the experience(s) of my submissive. Both times I had been tied up and engaged in bondage with my submissive were a great exercise in trust.

The first time, it was rough. We were a newly formed relationship, but I still trusted that he would be careful and follow our negotiation of safe words and aftercare plans beforehand. The second time was really rough for me, but this time, our relationship had matured. For me, this time it was all about trust and giving up power. This time around, I thought about how much control I like to be in in all aspects of life. I also thought about how much I do not trust others or believe that someone would actually take care of me, and that I am deserving of good care. I had panicked in the middle of the scenes (but didn’t show it) and asked to be released from the ropes, little by little. It was so reassuring to have my partner be there for me and for me to really trust in him - I had no choice, really, but to trust him.

In reflection, I call this experience an exercise in “force-d trust,” and I’ve learned that there are very few experiences in life where I’ve really had to force myself to trust someone else with this level of intensity. Obviously, I do not like this feeling at all due to the helplessness that comes with it, since I am a Dominant. But I also did not like it because it made sit with the fact that I can actually trust someone else with this type of deep trust.

Since that scene, I’ve been thinking about how I tie up my submissive multiple times a week, how much power he gives me, and how much trust he pours into me as well. About how I will tie him up to a point where he has absolutely no control of what’s to come. He has no idea of how he will be impacted, how we will be pleasured, or when he will be released. He has no choice in what I choose to do to him - whether that be impact, pleasure, foot gagging, anal, etc.
