⚖️ The structure and training of the armed forces undoubtedly has an impact on the growth of sexualized violence. The Salvadoran rebels were one of Latin America's largest guerrilla armies during the Civil War, yet only a small number of sexualized assault cases were associated to their operations.

This, according to researchers, is a result of armed organizations worldviews. In the example above, rebels sought revolution for the sake of a better future, perceived themselves as more disciplined and conscious than the proponents of the "old order," and wanted to spread their ideals of a more fair society to the majority of natives. Thus, sexualized violence strongly ran counter to their goals.

Military personnel's qualities have a significant impact on the spread of rаре. Coercion and violence in their activities will be severely restricted if they are voluntary soldiers fighting voluntarily, for instance, to defend their motherland.

In contrast, if the army recruits opportunists using force or certain material values, such as money, we will more frequently witness the rise of not only robbery but also sexualized violence against civilians and other war crimes.

🧬 I would also draw attention to the purported "biological factors" for why men are more likely to use violence. Some biologists have put forth such theories, for instance in the book "A Natural History of Rаре."

The truth is that they were created under the context of what is known as "biological reductionism," in which the phenomenon is only described by a biological perspective, ignoring all other factors. The way insects behave cannot be transferred to human society.

Because of the "evolutionary approval" of the propensity for violence, which "contributes to reproductive success," it is impossible to explain either rареs of non-reproductive women, or group rареs, or violent cases.

Furthermore, since almost anything in human society can be explained by "evolutionary approval," such an explanation of this crime is meaningless.

Therefore, other researchers consider the biological reductionist approach to be pseudoscientific and even harmful because it diverts focus away from the actual solutions to problems.

♂️ Cultivating militaristic courage, as Goldstein points out, cements ties within a certain group, where as a result of gender-based violence, an ugly overexpression of machismo arises.

Recruits in such a system are more prone to sexual crimes because they accept the social norms of the system. For such groups, gang rаре is a regular practice as an act of initiation into "real men," a crime are committed as a form of solidarity that strengthens cohesion.

This was most clearly seen in the conflicts in Liberia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where men committed lone or group raреs to show their courage and gain a position in an armed group.

It is also inextricably related to the concepts of military courage, domination, aggressiveness and risk-taking. Typically, service members who show learned militaristic masculinity have all gender perception distortions. They are much more likely to hold controversial views on gender, such as the notion that men and women manipulate each other or that women should be "punished" and want to be rареd themselves.

The same narratives can be heard from the well-known SSU intercepts, where the occupiers talk about violent crimes.

👁‍🗨 Another factors that influence the spread of violence are the presence of foreign observers and reliance on foreign allies if they have laws preventing such violence.

Russia has a long history of denial and spreading disinformation, hindering international investigations into its own violations of international law. Even the media murdеr of their own wards from the Wagner PMCs is not considered as a kind of problem by the Russian authorities.

On the contrary, democratic authorities typically penalize the use of this form of violence, and the case of Ukraine demonstrates how international collaboration helps the military system expand its humanistic laws.

Although today is Valentine's Day, I would like to draw your attention to a phenomenon that is the exact antithesis of love — sexualized violence.

Almost a year has passed since the beginning of russia's full-fledged invasion of Ukraine. And from the first few weeks on, it was evident that war crimes and human rights violations are follow the "russian world" step by step.

In October 2022, Pramila Patten, the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, emphasized that these crimes should be classified as the use of raре as a weapon of war given the systematic nature and prevalence of raре by russian soldiers.

As of January 2023, the UN reports that over 90 cases of sexualized violence in Russian-occupied territory have been officially documented. This clearly is only a very small part of the actual number of these crimes.

Even in peacetime, we are unable to accurately track the number of rареs, during the war it is nearly impossible. Fear, shame, pain, lack of logistics and monitoring issues prevent us all from finding out about the spread of raре.

But why do Russian soldiers act in this way? After thoroughly analyzing the scientific articles on raре in the conflicts, I can identify several factors that lead to this.

♂ performing hyper masculinized militarized identities and roles. Raреs have always been crimes with a pronounced gender component, and during the war they reflect the problems with power asymmetry even more.

Joshua Goldstein in his essay "War and Gender" focuses on how gender norms mold people to fit the needs of the military system. And occasionally, strong gender polarization is used as a tool for military socialization.

This affects not only the use of sexual violence against women, but also the raре and even castration of captive men. As a result, they seem to lose their masculinity, and in the "image of values" of those who committed these crimes, move closer to the lowest gender position — that of a woman.

Гибкость обладает одним из самых высоких показателей наследуемости. Амплитуда ваших суставов во многом зависит банально от того, какую соединительную ткань вы унаследовали от родителей.

Среди взрослых европейцев около 10% обладают признаками гипермобильности суставов. Такие люди могут освоить какие-нибудь позиции из йоги за пару недель, в то время как у человека без гипермобильности на нее ушли бы годы.

У некоторых эта гипермобильность может приводить к негативным последствиям — вывихам, растяжениям и травмам из-за нестабильных суставов. Мне повезло, ведь я обладаю гибкими суставами без подобных негативных эффектов. В свое время эта особенность давала мне не только высокие баллы на физкультуре за гибкость, но и быстрое освоение единоборств.

Высокая гибкость может давать преимущества в дзюдо и тейквондо, но тот факт, что ее оценивают в школе, мне не очень понятен. Было бы странно, если бы на физкультуре оценивали рост человека и ставили за это баллы. И у роста, и у гибкости практически одинаковые коэффициенты наследуемости, но ставить баллы за рост — звучит очевидно глупо.

С учетом этой переоценки физических достижений и недооценки умственных — кажется логичным, что красный выбрали еще и символом опасности в тех местах, где от человека требуется подумать. Красные знаки с требованием остановки транспорта, красные флаги на горнолыжных курортах (и в жизни людей, которые хотят завести отношения, но натыкаются на red flags), красные карточки в футболе и многое-многое другое.

Учитывая такую комбинацию ассоциаций страсти и опасности — не удивительно, что красный ассоциируется с эротизмом, безнравственностью и обольщением. Кварталы Красных Фонарей и христианское представление сатаны как красного создания не дадут соврать.

И это очень обидно! Я просто люблю красный цвет (еще больше — его сочетания с другими). Надевая красную майку, я с грустью осознаю, что многие люди будут выносить свои суждения лишь на основании цвета одежды на мне.

Как хорошо, что для этого фотосета мне не понадобилась одежда…

В западных обществах, по опросам, красный цвет синонимичен страсти, активности, сексуальности и любви. Ожидаемо, что и для Дня святого Валентина он приобрел символическое культурное значение.
Интересно, что в незападных культурах (Китай, Индия) красный символизирует удачу и счастье.

Не удивительно, что такая давняя история, связывающая нас с красным, отражается и на нашей психике. В ряде исследований, где анализировали влияние красного цвета на суждения людей в разных ситуациях, сделали довольно забавные выводы:
• в единоборствах тренеры невольно оценивают спортсменов в красной экипировке как более успешных, хотя сам по себе красный никак не повышает производительность или уровень андрогенов у спортсменов (т. е. эффект есть скорее со стороны «оценщика»);
• вместе с тем красный негативно отражается на восприятии задач, требующих когнитивных, а не физических усилий. Например, при оценке достижений в письменном тесте красная пометка в бланке вызывает более негативную оценку со стороны проверяющего.

Красный. Мысленно проведите ряд ассоциаций с этим цветом: кровь, цветы, спелые яблоки и ягоды, оттенки заката, Марс…

Интересно, что среди млекопитающих далеко не все различают красный цвет (к слову, если вдруг вы забыли, быкам все равно, какого цвета перед ними ткань. Они реагируют на движения, так что красный в данном случае — это цвет для публики, придающий зрелищность).
Есть гипотеза, что приматы смогли различать красный цвет, чтобы распознавать созревшие плоды.

Красный — можно сказать первый цвет, который начали использовать люди. Например, в каменном веке красный пигмент получали из глины с высоким содержанием окиси железа.

К сожалению, этимологические словари не смогли помочь в вопросе происхождения слова «краски», но возможно и тут не обошлось без этого цвета. Вероятно, наименования, обозначающие все привлекательное и хорошее (как «красна девица», «красный угол», «украшение» и «красота»), имеют отношение к красному.

Я живу фактически на территории одной большой равнины, и меня всегда привлекали горы. Особенно такие, как Анды, ведь они являются «возрожденными». Что это значит? Что они возникли на стыке двух древних тектонических платформ нашей планеты повторно, после того, как успели разрушится.

Нет ничего вечного в этом мире, и даже горы со временем обратятся в равнины – сила тяжести, водных потоков, даже атмосферные явления… все это выравнивает поверхность Земли, то, что называется выветривание горных пород.

Но даже сравнявшиеся древние горы могут вновь быть воздвигнуты новыми тектоническими движениями литосферы, они и называются «возрожденные».

Не удивительно, что в Андах много действующих вулканов, ведь активная тектоника продолжается по сей день. Плита «Наска» погружается под Южно-Американскую литосферную плиту, места таких погружений называются «зонами субдукции». Такие процессы всегда сопровождаются активным вулканизмом и землетрясениями.

Именно об этом я думал, смотря на эти горы…
