Continuing my interview with the amazing Karla Marx! Here’s what she had to say about first learning about doing Drag! 💗💗💗
I was very lucky to have a dear friend of mine who was a drag queen years ago, and they put me in drag for the first time. I did a little photoshoot and was thoroughly enthralled. I hosted a Burning Man event at our regional burn as Karla Marx and that was my first Karla outing. It was thrilling. People, who I knew for years, did not recognize me. And I had a lot of fun in the character. I did my first show in August last year with a local drag king, queen, and monarch group and ever since they have been my queer family. Flash forward a year now, and I’ve worked with Trixie Mattel and Victoria Elizabeth Black (from Dragula) and I’m loving the drag life.
Karla Mark , my Queen!
Me: “Tell me about the birth of Karla? When did she awaken? I’d love to know the genesis of the person behind the performance!”
Karla: “The short answer to this question is that Karla was born because my partner turned to e one day and said “You are so sassy, could you just become a drag queen already?” So I did!
The long answer would be that I was involved in the local Burning Man scene for a few years and had helped out throwing events and been more and more involved on the crew side, but was always interested in the performance too, but didn’t dance or play music or DJ so didn’t know what I could do. Then my partner got me involved as an MC hosting burlesque shows in a male persona, Hans von Hammer. Hans mixed elements of masculine and feminine energy and styling and was my first step into the world of drag and gender expression. A year of hosting burlesque shows had given me confidence and so when my partner suggested I start drag I thought I’d try it.”
So, I promised information on this page and that’s exactly what I’m going to bring to you! I’ve enlisted 5 friends, each with a unique prospective regarding Crossdressing! Each week, I’ll post a portion of an interview, relaying their experiences in hopes that we can learn from each other! Please feel free to comment with questions, we’d love to hear your feedback!
